Carmelo Truscello, B.A., LL.B., LL.M.
Carmelo is a partner at Truscello Nair LLP. He received his LL.B. from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom and his Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, Ontario. He is a certified member of the Law Society of Ontario.
During law school Carmelo was actively involved as a senior member of the Pro Bono Association whereby he and Maneesha jointly advocated for the promotion of new pro bono services within the community. He assisted in the facilitation of presentations and discussions on legal topics in an effort to provide access to justice for disadvantaged members of the community. Carmelo advocated for the importance of understanding one’s trial rights along with the rules of criminal evidence and procedure that maintain the function of the adversarial criminal trial. Carmelo bridged the relationships built in the United Kingdom to create prospective career networking opportunities for young lawyers through the Centre for Professional Legal Education and Research.
Carmelo has appeared with top senior members of the criminal defence bar on a number of high-profile, serious, and complex cases, which has provided him with unparalleled experience.
The focus of his practice is criminal defence. Carmelo’s litigation experience includes defending individuals charged with criminal, quasi-criminal and provincial offences at trial and on appeal.
In addition to his criminal and quasi-criminal defence practice, Carmelo also takes on select civil matters.
Maneesha Nair, B.A., LL.B., LL.M.
Maneesha is a partner at Truscello Nair LLP. She obtained her LL.B. from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom and completed her LL.M. at Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. She is a certified member of the Law Society of Ontario. During law school, Maneesha was involved in various pro bono programs and provided free legal services for disadvantaged communities at the Ontario Court of Justice. She further articled at a top criminal defence firm in Toronto with an emphasis on Charter scrutiny and serious criminal offences. Prior to law school, Maneesha attended the University of Toronto to obtain her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Sociolegal Studies and worked at the Court of Appeal for Ontario.
Maneesha’s primary focus area is the practice of criminal defence and her litigation experience includes defending individuals charged with criminal, quasi-criminal and provincial offences at trial and on appeal. In addition to this, she also takes on select civil matters.
Both Carmelo and Maneesha completed their LL.B. and LL.M. together and have since jointly participated in pro bono programs and have taken on various ventures together. Their partnership has proven to yield nothing but success, which they continuously strive for in the defence of their clients at all stages of the criminal justice system.
